Review: Blind Faith

Blind Faith
Blind Faith by Ben Elton

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is next antiutopia I've read right after 1984 and I admit I really liked it. Despite some ridiculous emphasis to the sex and few even vulgar scenes, the plot is astonishing, sometimes very predictable though.

Perception of this book is very the same as for 1984 in spite of the big difference in societies described. Undoubtedly inspiration of the book provided by the second. I like that and lukily I read it right after 1984.

Endless tasks

Today is the last workday in this year, but my tasklist is huge and red. Wish I could close them all that year, but, that's impossible. I'm so upset with it!

XKCD: The Important Field

To have air of awareness

Several days ago I found a new phrase definition.

To have air of something/somebody means to look like something/somebody.

Thoughts on the go

Dear Diary,

From the next Monday I start attending to English class again, but as of maternity leave, Katia is not our teacher anymore, but Katia is... Well, our new teacher's name is Katia and we aren't to memorize her name! Just kidding.

Today I watched 'The DOGMA' movie with subtitles on, understood almost everything without looking at the bottom of the screen. Noticed, that in english film more sensitive and touching (overflown with swearing, as well). Russian translation's satire is more Juvenalian, while original seemed more like Horatian.

It's late and I'm still up, so bye now and I hope to see you soon.

PS: Do I need some separate site for introducing interesting moments of the language that I discover from time to time or that should be done right here?

My reading progress

Dear Diary,

Today I'm a good boy! I've read more than 20 pages in one go. And that afterall was Orwell. You know, after some period of adoptation to the author's style it's much easier to read. First 20 pages was a pain for me but now I'm ok and enjoing that good book.

See you soon.

PS: What whould you recommend to read?

Not enough power

Hey Diary, I need your support.

Theese days I completely depleted all my power sources. I feel like a leaf on the autumn's tree: after long time of working very hard, doing your best, you realize that everything slows down, that actually it's you slowing down and it is you are yellow, it's your turn to take a rest.

I've a lot things to do, but I've lost almost all my motivation and my efficiency is very low now. I suppose it's swings effect and low performance time. But every time I reach it, I really hate it. Boy, wish I could be drunk, though it would be worse than that.

Bye Diary.

Sleepy thoughts

Dear Diary,

I haven't seen you for a long time! But don't be so angry, I have an excuse, I was really tired that days and wasn't powered enough to open my browser, type your address and, at last show you mine world. Besides, I even forgot to read Orwell's "1984"! That's horrible, for several months I zealously read english books every day and now I have a week-long gap! Shame-shame-shame. Sue me next time, please!

That's the very difficult to pay enough attention to one's hobbies after hard routine days, you know. Oh, well, you're my diary and you have no sense of things like that at all.

Last week, perhaps, was something special for me: there was some new exciting people to met, some new situations and so on. But don't be bothered, I won't tell you a little bit of that.

Cheers!

Beyond the CV

Dear Dairy,

Tomorrow (and this friday as well) I'll attend to the 'Effective interview' training during workday. I'm excited: it's very interesting to me, you know. I do technical interviews from time to time and it will be great to know how to do this best.

Whoa Dynamic Views

Hey, Diary!

Recently Blogger announced new super-hyper-mega-feature. Behold: Dynamic Views!!! As any true geek would certainly do, I had switched that feature on as soon as I discovered it!

It's dumb and unusable and very lame, but I like it!

And you know what? You, my dear diary, will be ok with it, I promise.

Reading coincidence

Dear diary.

I had been reading "1986" by George Orwell for few days. And guess what? Today's English lesson were about this novel!

This was a strangest coincidence I ever seen.

Monday-like Wednesday

Hi Diary,

This day was really tough. High workload, bustle about windows warmth keeping and mobile plan tuning. Girls are staying with granny, so today I'll sleep alone with the tortoise scratching through the terrarium.

My daughter's third birthday

Dear Dairy,

On September 19th was Sasha's third birthday! It was monday, but I was on leave so I spent this day with Olga and Sasha.
Morning started with early greetings and presents: big lovely house (which is suitable for me and Sasha playing inside) and some sweets.

After that we were to visit ENT because of Sasha's otitus, but doctor suddenly took his sick leave. We returned home and slept till the time when other doctor would accept us. After that mess with doctors and clinics we was totally exhausted and cancelled big party, only few of our relatives came and finally candle was snuffed out!

This was a crazy day in different matters, but inspite of troubles it was filled with laughter and happiness!

Great opportunity

Notes on the go

I'm going to finish reading my first modern popular english book called 'The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks' by Rebecca Scott. My thoughts about this book are on the way.

New realm of the Dairy

Dear Dairy,

Today I want to introduce your new side to you. It really unfair to make you so odd with only stuff like 'afterseries overviews' - every personality is messed salad of different realms of it. I think you could guess what I prepared for you (you're my second identity, afterall)! So, guess! No? Yes! It's comic strips. Favourite ones, of cource.

PS: And don't be bore, they're fun.

The Office s4e9 "Dinner Party"

Unexpected friday overtime work was cancelled by Michael's call to the corporate shouting "We won't do it! We won't do it!" and everyone had sigh of relief except Pam and Jim - they've been caught in a word by Michael. Jim explained to us, that Michael asked him for dinner party at least 9 times and there always were some cases not to go untill that friday night.

There were Michael with Jan, Jim with Pam and Andy with Angela, but not Dwight (poor boy yeah).

As predictable result Michael quarrelled with Jan, Michael's neighbours called police and party was over. Michael fled with uninvited (hence joined the party) Dwight after police order.

Afterword

Hi again there,

I have an idea of another self-learning activity. I watch series of English tv shows ('The Office' US version is in progress now). So I might make some notes or reviews after every episode I watched? I think it's great idea itself, but I need some courage to do excercise regularly. What do you think about that?

Diary style blogging

Dear Dairy,

Don't you mind if this blog would be used in the diary form? I think it would be fun pretending that there is some "personal" diary around the Internets.

PS: My previous post was tagged as 'Classes' - tag for marking my English class homework.

Bald Joe

Meet the Joe, middle aged average guy that you probably had met, but never paid a bit of attention to him. Joe had a little problem. I said a little? Oh, not for him.
He was bald and all he was dreaming about was beautiful shiny gleaming streaming jet-black hair.
Once he walked in the park and hummed some popular song and, he even didn't realized why, gazed at some advertising poster. And that's it! Amazing mixture from tropical bird milk for rich and flossy hair had been found.
Joe bought one and hurried to make a test. Pharmacist said that Joe should scrutinize instruction notes, but Joe didn't care - the more hair, the better. And he emptied the bottle onto his head.
In the evening he dreamed and pretended his new haircuts and shampoos and lotions.
Next morning he felt... Yes it was hair! Needless to say that he was celebrating his victory over baldness.
He was doing his hair.
He was brushing his hair.
He was combing his hair.
That was a real victory, but wait. Joe realized that there was to much of it. Hair was growing and growing and Joe could not stop 'em. He was cutting them for a day, but had not succeed. After all in the evening, tired and desperate he fell asleep.
Next morning he felt... Yes there was no hair! Joe celebrated his victory of baldness.

Good news everyone

Today I realized that I might need english-writing skills improvement. And the best way, as it seems to me, is to have separate blog for it.

I've created that blog for posting some thoughts or twitter-like sentences. Nevertheless, you are wellcome here, and of cource you are wellcome to correct my runglish.
